Girls’ volleyball was the last sport to return from the COVID-19 pandemic, but after finally getting back on the court in 2021 the sport is ready for some normalcy in 2022. The city graduated a historic class, with All-Americans Laura Williams (Lakewood) and Adonia Faumuina (Long Beach Poly) both headed to the Pac-12 this year along with Poly’s Rylie McGinest. This year, some key returners hope to lead a talented crop of newcomers across the city.

The good news is that it looks like the Moore League is entering a new era of parity. Lakewood and Poly have won every league title in the last decade, including sharing it twice. But Wilson and Millikan are as competitive as they’ve been in a long time, and there’s legitimate four-team intrigue heading into the 2022 season.

All four of the league’s top teams as well as St. Anthony and Cabrillo will be in action Saturday, August 13 and Saturday, August 20 at the Lakewood/Molten Classic being hosted at Artesia, Wilson and Mayfair. The top four teams will also be showcased at September 24’s Steve Lewis Volleyfest, which will once again feature four marquee matches.

The Moore League schedule begins the day before the LBUSD starts school, on August 30, and runs from then through September and halfway through October.
