Millikan will be looking for some revenge in its season opener tonight at Santa Ana. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Last year, the Rams opened their season with a 48-41 loss to Santa Ana at home. Millikan coach Romeo Pellum said after that his team needed to manage the game better, and he knows that’s the same story this year.
“They’re a scrappy team that’s returning a good amount of players including their quarterback,” Pellum said. “It’ll be a battle.”
Millikan and Santa Ana had a similar 2021 season. Santa Ana went 8-3 last season and finished second in the Orange Coast League before losing a close game to Dominguez 40-34 in the first round of the Division 6 playoffs.
Santa Ana quarterback Sergio Torres is back for his junior season at quarterback after throwing for 1,745 yards, 28 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He also averaged 6.3 yards per carry with six rushing touchdowns.
Millikan is ranked No. 72 in California and Santa Ana is ranked No. 131, according to MaxPreps.
