The562’s coverage of volleyball in the 2022-23 school year is sponsored by Misty-May Treanor and the Dream in Gold Foundation.
The schedule has been set for the finals of the Tae Kim Lakewood/Molten Classic this weekend, with the top five teams in the Moore League all competing for some kind of championship.
Division 1 (Artesia High)
Lakewood is 2-0 in the tournament and will compete in the Gold Division on Saturday, facing Cypress in the semifinals at 3 p.m.—if they win they’ll play for the championship at 7 p.m. against the winner of Huntington Beach and Torrance; if they lose they’ll play the loser of the other semifinal at 7 p.m. for third place.
Long Beach Poly went 0-2 in pool play and will play in the Bronze Division Saturday morning, with a semifinal match against Los Osos at 9 a.m. If the Jackrabbits win they’d play the winner of South Torrance and Quartz Hills for the championship at 1 p.m. With a loss they’d play the loser of that semifinal for third place at the same time.
Division 2 (Wilson High)
Both Wilson and Millikan went 2-0 in pool play and both the Bruins and Rams will compete in the Division 2 Gold Division semifinals at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Wilson faces Glendora and Millikan faces Schurr; wins by both Long Beach teams would see them play in the championship at 7 p.m. The losers from those semifinals will play at the same time for third place.
Division 3 (Mayfair High)
Cabrillo went 0-2 in pool play and will compete in the Division 3 Bronze Division, facing El Monte in the semifinals at 9 a.m. A win would put them in the 1 p.m. finals against the winner of Artesia and Bell Gardens; with a loss they’d place at 1 p.m. for third place against the loser of the other semifinal.
