A Big League dream is about to come true for Long Beach’s Spencer Steer. The Millikan High grad has developed into one of the best prospects in baseball, and he’ll soon get his shot at the Major Leagues.
The Cincinnati Reds announced Thursday they were promoting Steer from Triple-A Louisville, meaning he will join the Reds in Cincy for their weekend series against the Colorado Rockies, which starts on Friday.
Steer, 24, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 3rd round of the 2019 Draft out of Oregon. He’s a versatile infielder that can play multiple positions for the Reds, who acquired Steer in a trade deadline deal back on Aug. 2.
Steer is believed to be the ninth Millikan Ram to make it to the big leagues, and the first since 1B Jon Singleton made his debut with the Houston Astros in 2014.
In July, Steer was invited to compete in the MLB All-Star Futures Game at Dodger Stadium, signaling that he was on the precipice of a big league promotion. Across two levels of the minor leagues this season, Steer is hitting .274 with 23 home runs and 75 RBIs.
