The562’s coverage of Long Beach Poly athletics in the 2022-23 school year is sponsored by Poly alum Jayon Brown and PlayFair Sports Management.
Long Beach Poly football coach Stephen Barbee is not a big fan of the limelight. Any time he’s complimented or recognized, he pivots the credit to his players or his coaches. As the Jackrabbits have gotten off to a 3-0 start and are in the top five in the state rankings, he’s going to have a hard time avoiding the spotlight.
At school on Tuesday the Los Angeles Rams Community Foundation presented him with a Coach of the Week Award and a $1,000 donation to the school’s football program. The week prior, the Chargers also named him Coach of the Week and donated $1,000 to the Jackrabbits.
“This wouldn’t be possible without all of the players going out and executing the gamplean and without our assistant coaches who spent all week putting the gameplan together,” said Barbee at the check presentation rally, while pointing to all of his players.
The Jackrabbits will visit Leuzinger this Friday in a game played at El Camino College.
