The pleasant surprise of the Moore League will look to improve to 4-0 on Thursday night, as the Cabrillo Jaguars will visit Lynwood High for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Jags have been great this year, outsourcing opponents 114-19, and will look to finish off an unbeaten non-league portion of their schedule. Cabrillo hasn’t won four games in a season since 2016, and haven’t won four straight games since the 2011 season when Last Chance U star, Jason Brown, was head coach.
Cabrillo’s lone win of the 2021 season came against this same Lynwood team at Jaguar Stadium. Cabrillo won that meeting with the Knights, 26-12, with the help of a pair of Pick-6’s from Isaiah Miranda and Luis Haro.
This year’s meeting will be a battle of unbeatens, as Lynwood also sports a 3-0 record. The Knights won via forfeit in week one, then won 36-12 at University and squeaked by for a 14-12 win at Garfield last week.
QB Maximillian Archiega threw for three TDs in the win over University, and his preferred target was fellow senior Samaj Holmes. He’s a playmaker on both sides of the ball who will run it and catch it. He had over 200 all-purpose yards in the University win.
It appears that Cabrillo head coach Shane Gonzales and the Jaguars could make some program history on Thursday night. The Jags haven’t started a season 4-0 since at least 2004.
