The Lancers are looking to bounce back this week and climb back to .500 after a tough loss to Laguna Hills.
In a battle for local bragging rights, Lakewood (1-2) will be facing the Mayfair Monsoons (1-2), their neighbor two miles up on Woodruff, on Friday night. The two teams play annually for the Milk Bucket trophy, a long-held representative of Lakewood’s history.
Both teams are coming off tough road losses, so expect this game to mean a lot more than usual to both sidelines.
In recent years, Mayfair has been holding on to these bragging rights by a wide margin, with the closest game being 21-18 Mayfair back in 2017. This is the same Mayfair team who recently defeated St. Anthony 49-6, on August 26.
In order to gain a victory, the Lancers’ defense will need to dry out the Monsoons’ offense led by senior quarterback Evan Tomich and his younger brother, Owen Tomich, a junior wide receiver.
Kick-off is set for Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 P.M. at Ron Yary Stadium in Bellflower.
