The Millikan Rams are closing their non-league schedule with an out-of-state trip, visiting Sunrise Mountain High in Peoria, Arizona for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday.
The Rams are looking to improve to 3-1 before Moore League play starts next week, and you can bet that high-powered offense will travel. Millikan has scored 154 points in three games, averaging 58 points scored in their two wins.
Meanwhile, the host Mustangs will be playing just their second game of the season on Saturday, and the opener did not go well last week. They lost 50-0 against Liberty, giving up an average of 7.5 yards per carry in the defeat.
That could mean a productive day for Millikan running back Nygel Osborne, but to be fair, it’s hard to pick the offensive standout for the Rams each week given their depth of quality playmakers. Junior Ryan Pellum had a pair of TDs in his first game of the season last Friday, but fellow WR Jordan Anderson had six grabs for 187 yards and two scores.
Typically, when California teams hit the road to play teams out of state, they have a distinct advantage in speed and athleticism. This matchup will be no exception, and if the Rams are firing on all cylinders, there’s not many high school defenses in the State of Arizona (or anywhere else) with the horses to slow them down.
The Mustangs couldn’t have been better hosts in welcoming the Rams to town on Friday. The teams had dinner together on campus after the Rams got a quick look at the stadium. Tonight’s visit won’t be quite as cordial once the pads come on, though.
Game-time temperature will be warm–expected to be a shade under 90 degrees in Peoria–but the Rams have been prepping for that with the recent heat wave in Long Beach.
Saturday’s game will be streamed live on the Peoria Student Broadcasting Network (PSBN). CLICK HERE to see the live stream.
