A scheduling quirk left Wilson football without a game in the last week of the regular season because of its Moore League bye, but the Bruins will be in action anyways.
Coach Scott Meyer wanted to keep his team active before a possible at-large postseason berth so he scheduled Saddleback to visit Long Beach on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7.
Wilson (3-6) needs a win to increase its chances at being picked to join the CIF Southern Section playoffs, but coach Meyer said his Bruins are trying to keep their spirits high despite a season full of disappointing results.
“They’re pretty loose these week and we’ve tried to have some fun,” Meyer said.
Saddleback (2-7) won its first two games of the season but has lost seven consecutive games since then. The Roadrunners haven’t scored over nine points in any of those losses, and have only scored 105 points this season.
Wilson running back Christian Chapman went over 1,000 yards rushing last week and is averaging 116.2 yards per game with eight touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.
The Bruins haven’t played a postseason game since losing at West Ranch in the 2019 quarterfinals.
