In its final tune-up before the start of the CIF Southern Section playoffs, Millikan sent another reminder that they are a force to be reckoned with on Friday night at Cabrillo.
Junior quarterback Myles Jackson spread the ball around to his receivers accounting for 407 yards and five touchdowns, plus one rushing touchdown, as the Rams defeated Cabrillo 55-0.
“We all know what we’re capable of,” Jackson said. “Especially on offense. It’s kind of expected now, for us to put up high-scoring games.”
The Rams got off to a stellar start as Jackson found Ryan Pellum early and often as the two connected for three passes and 60 yards on the opening drive.
But, that drive stalled as Cabrillo’s Antonio Elam jumped a route and came up with an interception to set up the Jaguars’ offense.
Millikan’s defense went right to work to force a three-and-out to put Jackson and the offense back on the field.
Jackson wasted no time as he found Angelo Miranda for a 52-yard touchdown on the next play to give Millikan a 6-0 lead with 6:58 left in the first quarter.
After another forced punt, Jackson got Jordan Anderson involved with a 24-yard catch and run and then found Pellum in the endzone for a 5-yard touchdown to give Millikan a 14-0 lead after Jaden Hunt converted the two-point attempt.
Pellum had a big night for the Rams with nine catches for 158 yards. Anderson had four catches for 107 yards.
Jackson continued to spread the ball around as he had five touchdown passes to five different receivers including Matt Martinez for an 18-yard catch and run that put Millikan up 21-0.
After the Rams’ defense came up with another stop, Jackson went back to the air and found Anderson for a wide-open 36-yard touchdown.
Millikan was able to get their reserves some action in the running-clock fourth quarter,
The playoffs will present new challenges for Millikan, but the team is focused as they wait for the brackets to release on Sunday.
“We’re really focused on us,” Millikan coach Romeo Pellum said. “Being able to execute what we need to execute. It’s not the opponent. We have a really good offensive line, our skill players are really good, our quarterbacks really good. So, it’s about us executing our game plan."
