As Moore League gets ready to wrap play until winter break there was some exciting action across Long Beach during the second week of league play.
After dropping their contest to Wilson in the final match to open Moore League play, the Poly boys bounced back to defeat Lakewood 48-21 last Thursday. It was actually a sweep for Poly as the girls also defeated the Lancers, 48-0.
At the Channel Islands Rotational, Poly placed third out of 14 teams last weekend with multiple athletes placing. Nathan Itchon took first along with captain Eduardo Sandoval, who also took MVP.
Justin Bernal, Tyler Gaines and Alek Carrera took second, while Eduardo Reyes and Hector Colio took fourth.
At Millikan’s Shoot for the Muon Memorial Tournament, the Poly girls took third overall. Raven Ross took first in her class while Shelby Stump took second and Athziri Guizar, Berlynn Solia-Tago and Kristine Comia took third. Heyde Medina rounded the competition with a fifth place finish.
Across the city, Wilson defeated Compton 84-0 with only five matches. Noah Hartz saw his first action at the 113-weight class and won his match by pin.
At the Edison Beach Bash, the Bruins had three placers with Jacob Jenner, Benny Alberto and Dorian Ortloff.
On the girls side, Wilson had four placers at the Norwalk Invitational with Estephany Ibarra, Kayla Espinoza, Irene Robledo and Angelina Menera.
Millikan was also in action and defeated Jordan. That sets up a huge showdown this week as the league’s two unbeaten squads will face off on Thursday with Millikan visiting Wilson at 4 p.m. for a first-place showdown.
