HIGH SCHOOL
Ariyonna Augustine, Long Beach Poly Track
California’s reigning sprint queen put on a show last weekend at the Arcadia Invitational. The LSU signee won the 100 and 200 state championship last year and already owned this year’s top time in the 200 (23.73). At Arcadia she laid down the state’s top time in the 100 and won the prestigious event with a time of 11.56.
Rachel Glenn, Wilson Track
The Bruins’ sophomore sensation burst onto the scene by clearing a nation-leading 5’11” in the high jump a few weeks ago and she won the prestigious Arcadia Invitational high jump competition last Saturday with a leap of 5’8”. She also ran on the 4×400 team that took third and the sprint medley relay that took second.
COLLEGE
Marques Buggs, LBCC Volleyball
The Vikings remained undefeated and No. 1 in the state with a sweep of LA Trade Tech last week. Marques Buggs, normally a rotation setter for the team, played outside hitter and put on a show with 14 kills on .345 hitting, two aces, four digs, and a solo block in the win.
Lauren MacLeod, LBSU Softball
On Sunday the 49ers swept UC Riverside and set a new program record for consecutive wins with 13 in a row. They got excellent pitching in all three games but would have lost Sunday’s contest without MacLeod’s heroics, as her three-run home run in the sixth inning lifted the 49ers to a 4-2 win. The team is ranked No. 18 in the nation and has a record of 32-7, and a perfect 6-0 in the Big West.
