The Cabrillo Jaguars picked up a much needed victory in their season opener on Friday with a 20-0 win at Bellflower. The Buccaneers are ranked No. 1 in the latest CIF Southern Section Division 13 poll.
It is just the fifth win for Cabrillo in the last three seasons, but second-year coach Mike Ulufale said he wasn’t very surprised with the result.
“I knew if this team bought in like they have that these are going to be the results,” Ulufale said. “If we just believe the rest will be history.”
Cabrillo senior running back Spencer Cooley carried the ball 10 times for 80 yards and one touchdown. Senior captain Roger McMillan also had a touchdown on eight carries and 50 yards. However, the Cabrillo defense was the difference maker with seven sacks and forced fumble to go with the shutout.
