The Long Beach basketball world is mourning a pair of losses with the passing of Millikan alum Naomi Iman Wright and Poly alum and longtime volunteer Matthew Mosley.
Wright, 23, was tragically killed in late January after being stabbed while dancing at Catch One, a nightclub in Los Angeles. A recent Millikan alum, Wright was remembered for her smile and warm, outgoing personality, which endeared her to fellow Millikan players and coaches alike.
Elaine Deleonguerro was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department and booked on suspicion of murder.
Wright’s services were last weekend and were well-attended by members of the city’s basketball community.
Mosley was a Poly alum and longtime volunteer with the school’s basketball and football teams, who passed suddenly two weeks ago from complications due to pneumonia. Mosley was a familiar face to anyone who spent time around the Jackrabbits’ premier programs. He had been a volunteer on the football team chain gang for several years, and was also the volunteer scoreboard operator for the Poly boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.
Mosley is survived by his wife and his school-aged son and daughter. In addition to his passion for Poly sports he was an active member in his church and had been a renowned competitive bowler since his youth.
Services for Mosley will be this Saturday, Feb. 15, at St. John Baptist Church in Long Beach at 11 a.m.
