That sound you heard today was a collective sigh of relief.
The Long Beach State women’s basketball program was back on the Walter Pyramid court today for practice just three days after having their historic season was put on pause.
The Beach (7-1, 6-0) had a positive COVID-19 test come back on Friday from someone in the first tier of the program— which meant they were on track for a two-week pause.
However, a few hours later that individual tested negative. A third test is required to confirm the false-positive, and that’s why LBSU was together again today when that third test result came back negative.
“We were encouraged right away,” LBSU head coach Jeff Cammon said. “The girls are always positive. But because the first negative came back in just a few hours we felt like we had a shot. That hope really allowed us to stay in a positive mindset.”
The next game on the schedule for LBSU is at UC San Diego on Jan. 29-30 but that could change.
LBSU men’s basketball also had positive tests results on Friday, and is also currently awaiting its test results because of a possible false-positive. Those results on three different individuals will hopefully come back Tuesday morning and help the Beach avoid of second pause this season. The first one came in December. LBSU is 2-2 in the Big West.
Come back tomorrow for a full report when that news breaks.
