The Cabrillo Jaguars will play a football game on the West Side for the first time in almost two years when they host Jefferson High tonight at 7 p.m. Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season, after Cabrillo dropped its opener at Hawkins last week, and Jefferson suffered a 33-0 home loss against South East High.
Like the Jags, the visiting Democrats haven’t played much football lately, going 1-1 during the spring season. In 2019, however, Jefferson went 9-4 in the LA City Section’s Exposition League.
Sophomore quarterback Luis Haro will be a key player for the Jags, after taking the first snaps of his career last week on the road. He’ll have the home crowd and familiar confines of Jaguar Stadium to help him this time, and should be a little more comfortable with some varsity experience under his belt.
If Cabrillo can score a victory on Thursday night, it would be the program’s first win at home since a 21-19 victory over Jordan on Oct. 5, 2018.
