Millikan (1-2) is looking to close out its non-league schedule with back-to-back home wins as the Rams host La Mirada (2-1) tonight at 7 p.m. Last week, the Rams took down St. Anthony with a 47-8 win, and will look to build on that momentum against a solid Matadores program.
This could be a strength on strength matchup as La Mirada boasts a talented receiving target in junior Xavier Hicks. He already has 20 catches for 349 receiving yards and three touchdowns through La Mirada’s first three games, meaning the talented Millikan secondary will need to key on him to limit LM’s scoring prowess. Junior quarterback Nehuel Garcia has thrown for 595 yards so far this season and half of his eight touchdown passes have gone to Hicks. Senior Edward Lafferre is averaging nearly eight yards per carry in the running game this season.
The Matadors opened their season with a narrow 24-21 loss against El Toro, but have rattled off consecutive wins against Chaffey (28-0) and St. Margaret’s (31-31).
Meanwhile, Millikan got five touchdowns from sophomore quarterback Myles Jackson in last week’s win, though it wasn’t his most efficient performance. If the Rams offense can find its rhythm, they should be able to put up points in this one, and head coach Romeo Pellum would love to see his team pick up another win before heading into Moore League play next week.
La Mirada won the previous meeting between these school back in 2019, taking a 43-36 win at La Mirada. Will it be another high-scoring game between these two teams?
