After surviving a Zone Tournament elimination game, the Long Beach PONY 14-Under All-Stars are two wins away from making their third World Series appearance since 2008.
Long Beach came back to beat the All-Stars from Maui, Hawaii 2-1 on Saturday in West Hills thanks to a pair of sixth inning runs driven in by Ryan Skjonsby and Robert Voss. Starting pitcher Myles Patton struck out five in five innings for Long Beach, and Jake Ehmann struck out three in two scoreless innings to pick up the win.
The local All-Stars will play Maui again at 11 a.m. on Sunday, and the winner will play Tecolote at 2 p.m. with a trip to the World Series in Pennsylvania on the line.
