Winning the Moore League with an undefeated record and finishing with a 28-6 overall record has earned Lakewood girls’ volleyball a spot in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 pool play bracket.
The Lancers postseason starts tonight when they visit Mira Costa. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Win or lose today, Lakewood will continue the Division 1 bracket in pool play against Mater Dei on Oct. 25 and Palos Verdes on Oct. 29. The winners of the two pools will meet on Nov. 5 for a championship. All teams pass on to the state bracket.
Lakewood is No. 4 in the division but lost to Mira Costa on Oct. 8 as part of a tournament. It was the first loss for the Lancers since Sept. 17. The Mustangs (33-3, 10-0) have only lost once since Aug. 18. Senior outside hitter Drew Wright (#12) is averaging 4.3 kills per set.
“The road will not be easy but we can compete with anyone,” Lakewood coach Mike Wadley said.
