The Moore League’s top distance runners competed at the CIF-SS Prelims on Friday at Mt. SAC, with some punching their ticket to the CIF-SS Cross Country Championships next Saturday, Nov. 19.
Both the Long Beach Poly girls’ and boys’ teams advanced on to the CIF Finals, along with the Millikan boys’ team. That ensures that all three of the league’s ranked teams will move on to the finals.
On the girls’ side, Poly freshman Avery Peck won her heat with a time of 18:22.7, helping the Jackrabbits to a second-place finish in their race. Poly had its top five runners inside the Top 23 in the heat, with Camille Lindsay finishing 12th (19:31.8), Alexa Bryson in 17th (19:48.2), Evelyn Hernandez Lujan in 20th (19:56/4) and Brynn Jolly taking 23rd place in 20:00.3.
For the boys’ races, Poly was in Heat 1 and senior Cameron Rhone finished in the top spot with a time of 15:33.7. The Jackrabbits finished third in team scoring in their heat to move on to the CIF-SS Finals. Lamarr Kirk, Jr. finished 6th in a time of 15:49.9, Mason Lindsay and Luke Larson finished back-to-back in 20th and 21st, with times of 16:21.9 and 16:26.3, respectively.
Millikan’s boys ran in Heat 2 with junior Jason Parra winning that race in a time of 15:25.3. Teammate Jack Brown was 13th (16:13.9) and Wilson’s Gus Hollister placed 16th with a time of 16:24.9. Rams teammates Aiden Ransom (16:35.9) and Michael Brief (16:43.7) finished 24th and 25th.
There were no individual qualifiers for the league, but the Moore League’s three qualifying teams will return to Mt. SAC next Saturday morning. The Division 1 girls’ race is set to begin at 9:05 a.m. while the boys’ race will start at 10:10 a.m.
