Wilson junior Ian Nolte is one of the top players in the nation, and he recently announced his commitment to Ohio State, where he’ll continue his athletic and academic career. Nolte is one of the stars of a Bruins boys’ volleyball team that’s one of the best in the city in any sport this Spring, currently with an 18-1 record ranked No. 12 in Division 1.

“I’m super excited,” said Nolte of his commitment. “I’ve got a lot of trust in the coaches, the weight training staff, the nutrition staff, I think they’re all great people and they’re providing me with a great opportunity.”

Nolte said that he took a visit to the campus and was impressed by the facilities across the spectrum.

“The athletic facilities are all top notch, it’s kind of an athlete’s dream,” he said.

Nolte is planning on studying engineering and was impressed by Ohio State’s engineering school and labs as well.

The 6-5 pin hitter has also trained with USA Volleyball’s youth teams, and has a bright future ahead of him.

“He’s going to do well because of his level of experience, he’s seen the game from every position from the right side to the middle to the outside,” said Wilson coach Chris Ceballos. “His understanding of the game is a huge strength, in addition to his physicality and his athleticism. His experience is just on another level.”

Nolte said a major key for him is not letting the college commitment breed complacency over the next year and a half.

“It’s all about just staying on top of my schoolwork, making sure I’m dedicated to continuing to get better at volleyball, just staying focused,” he said.
