Sarah Maher, Long Beach State Soccer
Wilson alum Sarah Maher got to play hero for Long Beach State again, scoring the only goal in a critical 1-0 win over UC Santa Barbara. Maher’s header in the 64th minute after a Chloe Froment free kick gave Long Beach a 3-0-1 record in the Big West, keeping them unbeaten and in sole possession of second place.
Carlos Maldonado, LBCC Soccer
Warren alum Carlos Maldonado is a sophomore forward for LBCC, and the Vikings’ big week last week helped propel them into the national top 20 rankings this week. Maldonado scored LBCC’s only goal in a 1-1 tie with Cerritos, the top-ranked team in the nation. Then he assisted on both goals in LBCC’s 2-0 win over Pasadena.
