In early 2018, layoffs and budget cuts across the city’s media landscape threatened the existence of quality, dedicated Long Beach sports coverage. A small but passionate group of people and schools stepped up to ensure that the city’s youth didn’t lose their spotlight. Below are the first men, women, and institutions to come forward with a substantial financial contribution to the562.org, a non-profit community journalism outlet focusing on youth sports coverage, as well as in-classroom teaching.
Thanks to our founding sponsors as well as the first members of “The 562 100,” a group of legacy donors who kickstarted this website. These names will be listed forever on our website as a testimony to Long Beach’s support for its kids and schools.

Founding Sponsors
Marilyn Bohl
A longtime supporter of Long Beach State athletics as well as several of the Long Beach and Lakewood high schools, Marilyn Bohl knows how important local sports coverage is to the community. A member of the562.org’s board, Marilyn is hoping others will join her in supporting great coverage for the entire city of Long Beach.
Long Beach Century Club
The Long Beach Century Club has been supporting amateur athletics in the city since 1957, having helped launch the careers of superstars like Billie Jean King and Misty May-Treanor. When local sports coverage was in danger of disappearing, the Century Club did what it’s always done–it stepped up, and stepped in to make things right.
The Moore League: Cabrillo, Compton, Jordan, Lakewood, Millikan, Poly, and Wilson High Schools
We’ve spent a decade on the campuses of the Moore League high schools, doing everything we can to bring attention to the impressive exploits of the city’s students. This year the Moore League did everything it could to ensure that spotlight stays lit, helping provide us with the funds needed to launch this site and continue covering Long Beach youth.
